Dear Colleagues,

KIPCE 2002 will be held in the State of Kuwait on 14-16 December 2002 and embraces the theme of "Future of IOR in the Middle East".

Everyday around the world oil is produced at a rate of 75 million barrels per day. Today's technologies leave two barrels of oil inside the reservoir for each barrel of oil recovered. An increase in oil recovery efficiency would result in millions of incremental barrels of oil, worth billions of dollars. To tap these reserves, common techniques and new methods have been the subject of much technical consideration.

This conference will cover a wide range of technologies for improving hydrocarbon recovery with 6 main technical areas. The session's topics for these areas are horizontal wells, reservoir characterization, water flooding, IOR strategies, case studies, and laboratories and theories.

The KIPCE 2002 is planned for 3 days. During this meeting, I hope industry and academia will have the opportunity to look at technology needs and potential industry/university cooperation for developing technology and technology transfer. Keynote speakers from industry and academia will kick off some of the sessions.

Finally, on behalf of the entire Organizing Committee, I would like to thank every one who submitted an abstract for KIPCE 2002. It is your participation and enthusiasm that makes an event like this so successful.

We look forward to welcoming you to KIPCE 2002 in Kuwait.

Yours sincerely,
Dr. Yousef Sayed Khalaf
Organizing Committee Chairman - KIPCE 2002

Scope:
The conference will focus on all methods of IOR processes, namely miscible/immiscible gas processes, water flooding, polymer-augmented water flooding, chemical flooding, thermal methods, and horizontal well applications. We are working for a greater variety of topic presentations that are of interest to the petroleum industry in the Middle East Region. These topics include the following:

Field case studies related to IOR applications
  - Prediction performance
Selection of IOR processes
Field Pilot Tests
  - Design
  - Operations
  - Interpretation of field pilot tests
Laboratory measurements
Horizontal wells/Multilateral wells
Carbonate reservoirs
Naturally fractured reservoirs
IOR facilities
Other topics of IOR related to the Gulf Region
